Judi Kupermann designs custom-made jewelry with a simple, whimsical flair
A fashion degree from FIT, a husband who is a life-long jeweler, and a passion for modern art and nature are the only inspirations that Judi Kupermann needed to begin creating custom-designed pieces for her friends. Ten years ago, after apprenticing in a jewelry workshop, Judi began creating engagement and wedding rings for private clients.
Through this process she honed her jewelry-making skills and expanded her knowledge of precious stones, pearls and metals. But most importantly, Judi developed a keen insight into how to develop a custom-made piece that fits a woman’s unique personality.
“I derive great satisfaction from making people happy,” Judi explained. “It’s amazing how powerful jewelry can be to enable a woman to express her personality or to bring her a personal sense of joy.”
Today, with the launch of her own collection—Judith Kupermann Design—Judi has expanded her workshop so that she can share her one-of-a-kind creations with clients outside of her inner circle.
Judi hand-selects each stone, pearl and gem from some of the best “mines” in the world. In addition to unearthing precious materials on her walking tours of the American Southwest, she makes full use of the abundant resources in Manhattan’s own jewelry district.
“New York has some of the best raw pieces in the world; right here in our own backyard,” Kupermann explained. “I find the gems, stones and pearls that are almost alive with their own personality, and then I find that the piece almost designs itself!”
A quick peek through Judi’s jewelry box is sure to seduce one with intricately carved high-karated gold bands, a pink and lavender freshwater pearl bracelet with 20k rondels, a heavy-weighted lemon citrine cabochon ring, and an organic black pearl bee with “fluttering” gold wings, perched high upon an 18k band.
Simply put, Judi’s designs exalt the earth’s simplest forms and transform them into a personal treasure chest of witty and charming heirlooms, designed personally for each wearer.
